Target Audience- middle and high school AVID Elective teachers and coordinators who will be facilitating the AVID professional learning modules within the district. Description- Participants will learn to use the AVID Professional Learning Modules in a manner that models AVID Professional Learning Practices and is consistent with AVID’s quality expectations. Participants will explore characteristics of adult learners and the fundamentals of the AVID Professional Learning Practices and how the "frontload, immerse, debrief & apply" framework serves to create engaging, effective professional learning experiences. Learning Intentions- Participants will: (1) learn techniques in building relational capacity and a learning community (2) Identify the characteristics of high-quality professional learning (3) Review the characteristics of adult learners (4) Review the AVID Professional Learning Practices (5) Unpack the key elements of an AVID Professional Learning syllabus (6) Develop an action plan for personal growth as a facilitator of adult professional learning. Success Critieria: Participants will be able to (1) model the AVID Professional Learning Practices in order to transform classroom practice to postively impact student achievement and college readiness essential skills. (2) model the "frontload, immerse, debiref, and apply" framework for AVID Professional Learning practices.
